Alan Kiefer, of Wooster Dental and is a graduate of Wooster High School, read to a class of first graders.

Kiefer is a member of the Urban Forestry Commission in Wooster and said they wanted to teach students about the importance of Arbor Day and trees themselves.
"They (trees) give us so much," Kiefer said to the students. "They give us shade, they give us oxygen, they give us apples. …So today we're celebrating a really special day."
Aside from reading, first and fifth graders from all the Wooster City Schools were able to pick up a sapling to take home at the end of the day.

Public Properties Maintenance Manager Curt Denning said by offering the saplings, the city hopes to keep the tree numbers up.
“Just (want) to make sure that we're doing our due diligence and planting as many as we're taking down and keeping a nice treat canopy like we've always had here in Wooster,” Denning said.
