Corning Christmas Parade lights up downtown

Dec. 11—The crowds gathered for the annual Hometown Christmas Parade in Corning were shoulder to shoulder as they watch lighted floats, dancers, decorated tractors, all-terrain vehicles, drill teams, bands, the Grinch and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus march down the main street of town on Dec. 2.

The Holly Jolly-themed parade also featured equestrian entries, fire engines, ballet folklorico, historical entries, clubs, organizations and much more, all lighted and decorated in holiday cheer.

Leading the parade was the Corning Police Department's holiday coloring page contest winners, Zulca, riding with Officer Valencia and Christy, riding with Officer Ross.

Previous to the parade, the Chamber of Commerce hosted vendors, a movie for the community's kids at Rodgers Theatre, and visits and breakfast with Santa and his misses.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars local post held a Craft Fair at the Veterans Memorial Hall, which was well attended with a wide variety of crafts, foods and displays.

After the parade, residents walked down to Third Street for the annual lighting of the City's Christmas Tree.

Throughout the evening the Corning Volunteer Fire Department hosted a fundraiser spaghetti dinner for its Christmas Basket program to provide gifts and a holiday meal for less fortunate families in the community.

Other holiday festivities to take place in Corning are the annual Christmas Window Decorating Contest, Lighted House Contest, 12-Days of Christmas Shop Solano, which encourages residents to shop local and win prizes, and much more.
