Corning Community College names fifth men's basketball coach in last 54 years

SUNY Corning Community College has named Jason Whitney as men's basketball coach, it was announced Tuesday. He becomes the fifth men's basketball coach at CCC in the last 54 years.

Whitney takes over for Isaac Bushey, head coach for the Red Barons the previous nine seasons. Bushey guided Corning to a 15-10 record in 2022-23 and a runner-up finish in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.

Whitney, from Avon, played basketball at Alfred State and was an assistant at Alfred from 2016 to 2019, and again in 2021-22. He also has coaching experience at Hornell High School, where he was head JV boys basketball coach and a varsity assistant.

He will also serve as a full-time admissions and recruitment staff member at Corning.

Said Bushey: "Jason truly loves the game of basketball and everything that goes into being a coach at the collegiate level. However, what was most impressive was his passion for higher ed and how he will make a difference in the lives of his athletes through lessons learned on and off the court."
