Coronation Street adds West End actress Ruthie Henshall as guest star

West End star Ruthie Henshall has been confirmed to be making a guest appearance in Coronation Street.

She will be playing Estelle, an old friend of Glenda Shuttleworth, played by another star of the stage, Jodie Prenger. Estelle will be arriving on the cobbles on April 3, and her first scenes feature her having a row with George over her mum's funeral costs.

All hard feelings are forgotten though, when Estelle bumps into Glenda and the two look back fondly on their days performing on cruise ships together, and Estelle wastes no time trying to get Glenda to invest in her theatre school business.

Henshall said of being cast in the role of Estelle: “This is one of the most enjoyable guest roles of my career. Everyone is so welcoming and I can’t believe after years of the street being in my life that I finally get to tread the cobbles.

Henshall has been an extremely successful stage star over the last three decades, with her credits including Cats, Miss Saigon, Crazy For You, She Loves Me, Marguerite, Oliver!, A Chorus Line, Les Misérables, Billy Elliot and Chicago.

Reality TV fans may also recognise Henshall from her stint in the I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here jungle in 2020, where she finished in eleventh place. After leaving the jungle, she had a guest role in Doctors, so she's certainly got soap experience!

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
