Gemma Winter could face dire consequences for a mistake that put young Bertie Osbourne at risk in Coronation Street.

Friday's dramatic episode (July 7) saw Bertie inadvertently taking antidepressants when Gemma was supposed to be looking after him.

The trouble started after Daniel Osbourne and Michael Bailey dropped their little ones, Bertie and Glory, off at No5 for childcare for the day.

Gemma was clearly overwhelmed, with kids of her own to look after and the pressure of her brother Paul Foreman's declining health weighing on her mind. When Bernie offered to watch the kids for an hour, Gemma headed off for the cafe.

However, Beth Tinker wasn't pleased to see Gemma taking a break and accused her of slacking on her responsibilites, leading Gemma to rush home in tears.

Gemma soon fell asleep from exhaustion and had no idea Bertie was going through her bag. The boy found a package of antidepressants and took some of the tablets.

This was only discovered when Daniel and Daisy arrived to No5 to find Gemma asleep and the packet of tablets on the floor next to Bertie. A panicked Daniel rushed Bertie to the hospital for examination.

Luckily, the doctor assured Daniel that Bertie would have no lasting side effects from taking the tablets. While Daniel later told a horrified Gemma he'd be making alternate childcare arrangements, he also tried to comfort her.

Daniel explained to Gemma that this was a mistake anyone could have made, so she mustn't beat herself up.

Unfortunately, Gemma later got a call from Social Services about the incident, leaving her terrified that her own children would be taken away.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
