Coronation Street star Adam Hussain on Aadi's "raunchy" affair drama

Coronation Street launches a big new storyline for Aadi Alahan in Friday's episode (July 21) as Courtney Vance makes a play for him.
Aadi has found himself spending time with Courtney after being hired by her husband Darren, who's a successful businessman.
Aadi, who turned 18 at the start of this year, starts bonding with Courtney when she encourages him to share his entrepreneurial ideas with Darren. However, their interactions take a surprising turn when Courtney makes a move on Aadi, marking the beginning of an affair storyline.
Adam Hussain, who plays Aadi, recently caught up with Digital Spy and other press to chat about the new plot.
How does Aadi feel about Courtney making a play for him?
"At first, I think Aadi is a bit intimidated by Courtney's advances. He's in a headspace where he has a lot weighing on his shoulders. There's this very important business deal that Dev has to make happen with Darren. Aadi also wants to prove himself to Darren and progress further in his career.
"Aadi finds out that Courtney isn't just beauty but also brains. She wants to help him in his career, so she's encouraging him over how to reveal his competence to Darren.
"Aadi finds Courtney quite attractive, but he would in no way have expected these advances from her. At first, he thinks that she's just being friendly – and he doesn't want to ruin his relationship with Darren."
What is it about Courtney that ultimately draws Aadi in?
"Courtney's warm and welcoming personality, as well as her high academic ability and her knowledge of business. It's her constant flirting and fun energy that engages him as well."
There's an age gap, so why do you think Courtney is interested in Aadi?
"I'm guessing that Courtney is attracted to Aadi because he's quite young and innocent. The idea of an affair is quite enticing and fun for Courtney. She sees that Aadi does succumb to her advances and becomes infatuated with her. She's got him wrapped around her little finger!"
Is Aadi aware that part of Courtney also wants attention from her husband and may be using him?
"At first, Aadi is slightly aware of it, but he's not too bothered about it. He goes along with it, because he basically needs Courtney's help to get into Darren's ear so he can share his business ideas and progress his career. He also really needs to secure this investment for Dev.
"As the relationship develops, Aadi starts to develop more feelings for Courtney. There's one scene where Darren and Courtney are planning to go on holiday, so Aadi becomes quite defensive and possessive, telling her not to go."
Why has Aadi become so focused on his career?
"Aadi has definitely shown signs of dissatisfaction working in the Corner Shop. In the past, he could have gone to London for a business degree but he decided against it. That being said, working in the Corner Shop for the rest of his life was not his life's ambition.
"Aadi wants to progress himself in his business career, in any way whatsoever. He wants to make his dad proud and grow the Alahan business, so I think he will not hesitate to do what needs to be done."
Next week, Amy catches Aadi and Courtney in a compromising position. How worried is Aadi that his secret will be exposed?
"I think Aadi is quite worried at first! He's still desperate to get into Darren's good books and make this investment for Dev happen. Dev also reveals that he's in quite a bit of debt as a result of securing the funds for this investment, so Aadi has a lot hanging on his shoulders.
"All of that could be ruined by Aadi's own sexual gratification and it could be quite devastating for him – especially if Darren finds out. But Aadi speaks to Amy, who really reassures him that his secret is safe with her."
Could Aadi's connection with Amy still go somewhere?
"I think Aadi has feelings for Amy, but right now he's a bit preoccupied with Courtney! He's making sure that Courtney is happy and that the affair stays secret.
"I think there is a bit of a conflict there for Aadi, because he has feelings for both Amy and Courtney. I think it could still go somewhere with Amy, but at the moment he's currently with someone who he's spending quite a lot of time with and he's enjoying it."
Is it awkward for Aadi that Amy is the one who catches them?
"Yes, having it be Amy who catches them is a bit of a nightmare for Aadi! His crush has caught him in a sexual situation with an older woman, ruining his chances with her.
"Aadi doesn't want to hurt Amy's feelings, but he's not even sure if she has any for him in return. The whole situation has certainly made him very flustered.
"As Aadi continues to get more and more wrapped around Courtney's finger, he develops more feelings for her. So he ignores the notion of Amy, but I believe if Courtney wasn't in the picture, it would definitely go somewhere."
Is Aadi aware of how big the consequences could be if the affair gets exposed?
"I think Aadi is certainly aware of the consequences of the affair. He tries his best to resist the temptations of Courtney's advances, but he always falls short.
"Aadi falling for Courtney is not good, because if the fling is exposed, Dev could be financially ruined and Aadi's career prospects could be tarnished as well.
"Being with an older woman would be any other teen boy's fantasy. But again, when a connection develops over time, it makes it even harder for Aadi to call off this fling."
What did you think when you heard about this story?
"At first I was a little nervous, but also excited. I've never really done anything quite this intimate on the show, apart from the storyline with Kelly which was more of a sweet, innocent young love.
"This storyline takes things up a notch by being quite raunchy in some of its scenes. I was looking forward to trying out new stuff that I'd not done on the show before, and it has been quite fun.
"I was a little worried about the chemistry between Aadi and Courtney, but working with Stephanie Davis has quelled that notion and she has been so easy to get along with. Stephanie being the talented actress that she is, has made the work great."
How do you feel about Aadi growing into these more adult storylines?
"I think seeing Aadi change from a schoolboy to a young adult has been really fun. Playing him as he matures and begins to earn his stripes has been a pleasure and I'm looking forward to seeing what he gets up to next as a young, ambitious man.
"Aadi's innocent demeanour has changed a lot now, especially with this storyline! He started off as this young, innocent, awkward boy who would fail at flirting with girls, but it's been enjoyable watching him mature and changing into this young man."
Are there similarities between Aadi and Dev, who was a womaniser in the past?
"I think you might see a side to him that could be very much like Dev. Aadi is his father's son. I'm looking forward to exploring it and I can't wait to see what Aadi gets up to next and explore more of that side to him."
What would you like to see happen next for Aadi?
"I think I would like to see Aadi taking the Alahan business to unchartered territory – possibly something illegal like a drug empire! Simon Barlow getting involved would be quite funny to film!"
Will you avoid watching these affair episodes with your family?
"Yes, I think it would be quite awkward, especially watching with my parents. I think they're going to watch it nonetheless because they're avid Corrie watchers, but I won't be watching it with them!"
