There’s drama across the generations in Coronation Street — which airs tonight on ITV at 8pm — as Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and great-grandson Max Turner (Paddy Bever) endure a difficult day.
Viewers have seen Audrey’s drinking spiral as her daughter Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) grows increasingly worried. Earlier in the week, she tried to wrestle a bottle of wine out of Audrey’s hands, leading to Gail being covered in alcohol.

Meanwhile, troublesome teen Max was stunned when his date with new classmate Sonya (Isabelle Smith) fell apart due to their discovery that they had been cat-fished.
Max believed he had been messaging Sonya, and even sent a nude photo of himself when she asked for a glimpse; but it soon became clear that she had made no such request and didn't even know they were supposed to be on a date. Someone then blackmailed Max for £1k over the photo.

When his friends pointed out that he could be arrested for trying to send a pornographic image to an underage girl, Max panicked and tried to hack into dad David Platt’s (Jack P Shepherd) bank account. David and wife Shona (Julia Goulding) confronted Max and he begged them to pay the money, but David didn’t agree with that plan of action.
As Coronation Street returns tonight, David remains firm in his decision as he tells Max to go to school and front out the situation - they won’t be handing over the cash. As Max arrives at the bus stop, though, pals Chris and Blake begin quoting Max’s recent messages to Sonya, and it becomes clear who is behind his ordeal.
But how will Max react? Will that be the end of the matter, or are things about to get worse? Well, this is soapland, so inevitably they will.

Meanwhile, Audrey heads to the Rovers for a drink, where she is found by Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox). Rita encourages Audrey to return to work at the barbers. Chaos soon ensues, with star Nicholls stealing the show.
Audrey arrives at the salon and drinks more wine as she flirts with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott). David tries to send his grandmother home, but she trips over the Thai elephant. Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) later walks in to find the tipsy woman playing a game of table football with Ryan.
Maria also attempts to get her to head home, and a defiant Audrey refuses. Is she pushing away everyone who cares about her? Left alone at the barbers, Audrey staggers into the motorbike and it falls on top of her.
Will she be okay?
