Coronation Street star Bill Roache has announced a live event for later this year, following reports about him facing bankruptcy for a second time.

The actor, who has played Ken Barlow since the soap's very first episode in 1960, will be heading to Scarborough's Concert Hall on June 1 for An Evening with William Roache: The Best of His Life and Times.

The show's organisers (via The Sun) are calling it a "genuinely unique and special occasion" with "heartfelt and fascinating stories about his long and successful life".

"Bill will explore what his life was like before fame – growing up during World War II, his life at school, time spent serving in the British Army and so much more!" the organisers added.

"Of course, there will be many interesting, heartfelt and fascinating stories about his long and successful life as part of the British Soap institution that is Coronation Street."

Tickets for the approximately two-hour long show will reportedly start at £20. Any further dates have not been announced at the time of writing.

Last week, it was reported that HMRC has filed a bankruptcy petition against the actor.

A spokesperson for the organisation said it does not comment on individual cases, but issued a statement reading: "We take a supportive approach to dealing with customers who have tax debts, and do everything we can to help those who engage with us to get out of debt, such as offering instalment plans. We only petition for bankruptcy as a last resort."

"We're really sorry to hear of Bill's financial situation," a Corrie spokesperson stated. "Bill has an ongoing contract with Coronation Street and remains a much-loved member of the cast."

Late last year, Roache signed on to extend his record-breaking tenure on Coronation Street by another year, which will take him up to 64 years on the show in total.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
