Coronation Street star Jack James Ryan has quashed rumours he's dating his co-star Elle Mulvaney.

Jack returned to the cobbles as Jacob Hay earlier this year and his character has since been in a relationship with Amy Barlow, played by Elle.

But speaking during a Q&A with fans on Instagram Stories, Jack confirmed that the pair are just friends off-screen, after revealing that quite a few fans had asked if he and Elle were dating.

Jack shared a photo of the two co-stars on a night out together and wrote: "I've already got a few of these so...SHE WISHES. Nah, it's all jokes, we're just really good friends.

"@ellejmulvaney is like a sister to me," he added. "PS if you still haven't votes for us in the Inside Soap Awards, where have you been?!?"

Jack and Elle are nominated in the best romance category at the annual awards show.

Meanwhile, earlier this year Jack opened up about surviving testicular cancer after being diagnosed in his teens.

Jack shared that after finding a lump and having it examined by his GP he was referred to hospital. The actor then received surgery to remove his left testicle and have a prosthetic replacement, as well as undergoing chemotherapy.

"I was really lucky," he said. "The doctors thought I'd literally found the lump within the week that it grew. That was why I didn't need a lot of treatment afterwards. From finding the lump to being on the operating table took just two weeks. They moved so quickly."

Jack went on to explain that he had counselling after the experience, particularly as he was "struggling with my body image" after receiving treatment and didn't feel able to date anyone.

He later wrote a play about his experience with cancer called Me & My Left Ball, which he described as "a proper grieving experience".

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
