Coronation Street will soon be marking another impressive milestone, with the soap celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2020.

And with the show's 40th and 50th anniversaries both being marked by live episodes, there's certainly potential for Weatherfield to go live again next year.

Plenty of fans would love to see the cobbles beamed live to them once again and they're not alone as star Lorna Laidlaw, who plays newcomer Aggie Bailey, is also very keen.

"I would absolutely love to do that," she said. "That's theatre isn't it? I would absolutely be buzzing to do something like that."

Lorna's co-star Mikey North (who plays Gary Windass) has already teased that something "exciting" is in the pipeline for the soap's big birthday, so whether the soap goes live or not we can definitely expect a lot of drama.

And drama is something that Aggie has already had more than her fair share of since arriving on the Street in June as she's been worrying about her eldest son Michael (Ryan Russell) and his money-making schemes, believing that they were to blame for the family's financial troubles.

But when Aggie's bank card is refused next week, her husband Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) decides that it's time to tell Aggie the truth – that his gambling addiction was to blame for the family losing everything.

And Lorna admits that things have been moving so quickly for her in the soap that she's having to take things week by week as they start preparing for its big autumn and Christmas storylines.

"I'm going to be really honest, I have no idea what I’m doing," Lorna said. "I literally have what I'm doing this week and what I'm doing next week and finding my way through the revelation of Ed's gambling and trying to get things back together."

The actress, who previously played Mrs Tembe in BBC soap Doctors, has called the upcoming scenes "absolutely heartbreaking" and that's not the only big story the family will be involved in.

Another huge story coming up for the Baileys revolves around the issue of homophobia in football, with youngest son James (Nathan Graham) feeling apprehensive about coming out to his family and his teammates.

But viewers shouldn't expect to see that storyline begin on screens just yet, as Lorna hints that the family need to first get through Ed's gambling revelation.

"It's that thing of not doing too much too soon isn't it? We've got this big revelation of the gambling," she said.

"I think we just need to breathe before anything else. Everything needs to go normal before something else peaks and I think we're not quite there yet. It's so far in advance."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
