Coronation Street is set to return on Monday night (September 12) but Monday's episode of Emmerdale will not go ahead.

Following the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, ITV revised its schedule, replacing scheduled programming with extensive news coverage, tributes and prepared specials celebrating her reign.

Coronation Street will return tomorrow at 8pm with Friday's (September 9) displaced episode taking the slot.

Digital Spy previously reported that Thursday's (September 8) hour-long episode of Emmerdale will be airing tonight (September 11) at 6.35pm.

Tonight's hour-long episode of Emmerdale replaces Celebrity Lingo with RuPaul on the schedule with Gino's Italy: Like Mama Used to Make following in its usual spot at 7:30pm.

Friday's hour-long episode of Emmerdale was also dropped from air in scheduling changes and it has not yet been announced when the episode will be broadcast.

As well as the soaps, ITV replaced regular talk shows Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women with an extended ITV News broadcast.

Queen Elizabeth II visited the set of Coronation Street in July 2021 to mark its 60th anniversary and many stars of the soap have paid tribute to the Queen following the sad news.

Billy Mayhew actor Daniel Brocklebank took to his social media to share a photograph of the special day the monarch came to visit. He captioned his post: "A day I'll remember for the rest of my life. RIP."

Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt in Corrie, also took to Instagram to share a photo of the Queen when she visited the set. Jack's picture shows the Queen smiling at the soap star and he simply captioned his post: "Rest in peace."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
