Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Ronnie Bailey has betrayed brother Ed with a secretive move in Coronation Street.

The plot developed after Ed's son Michael Bailey got involved with newcomer Cassie Plummer in Monday's (August 21) episode, when she was assaulted by her drug dealer.

Cassie recently returned to Weatherfield to reconnect with son Tyrone Dobbs, yet it has become clear that she still has demons haunting her from her past.

Michael became drawn into her world when he spotted Cassie being harassed by dealer Dean, as he claimed that she still owed him money.

After spotting Cassie injured on the ground, Michael offered to accompany her to A&E. The duo had no idea Dean was following them to the hospital, until he jumped out.

Ronnie was on the scene as well when Dean actually struck Michael, and he urged his nephew to call police. Cassie begged the Baileys to leave the police out of this, as it could make the situation even worse for her.

However, the crafty uncle realised he could use the incident for his own means once Michael admitted that this type of situation happens to his mother Aggie regularly at the hospital.

Ronnie then leaned on Ed to invest in a financial scheme, under the guise of using profits to help Aggie retire earlier. Ed was understandably nervous, yet his brother insisted he'd be the one personally monitoring the finances.

The truth was later revealed when Ronnie met up with Debbie in the Rovers to confirm that he'd managed to get his brother in on the scheme.

"It doesn't feel very good. I'm still going behind his back," he admitted to Debbie.

Debbie insisted that "the less Aggie knows about this" the better it will be for everyone, while she suggested Ed could put the investments at risk if he were to find out the truth.

"You're doing him a favour by keeping him out of it," Debbie told Ronnie. "You know, this could really work out for us."

Ronnie remained conflicted, as he admitted he'd played on Ed's gambling addiction to convince him to get involved. Will Aggie and Ed find out the truth?
