Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Ryan Connor is set to disappear as he struggles to deal with the aftermath of his acid attack.

Last month, on the day of Daisy Midgeley's wedding, her stalker Justin Rutherford arrived at The Rovers Return and threw acid at her. However, in a shock twist, Ryan jumped in front of Daisy to protect her and took the full force of the acid.

Ryan has now suffered life-changing injuries, and upcoming scenes will show him receiving devastating news at the hospital.

Ryan has been told that he can't be discharged from hospital until he looks at his face for the first time since the acid attack. With Carla at his side for support, Ryan will tell the surgeon he's ready to look at his injuries.

But as Ryan stares at his face, the surgeon breaks the news that he isn't healing as they had hoped and that he needs a skin graft.

Later, Daisy and Carla head into Ryan's room only to discover him missing and his backpack gone. A search party is organised.

Daisy and Carla eventually find Ryan by the tram station, clearly traumatised.

Ryan Prescott, who plays Ryan Connor, recently opened up to Digital Spy and other media about the storyline.

Speaking about the long-term effects the attack will have on his character, Ryan said: "It's going to change his life forever because it changes the way he interacts with the world.

"The difficulty within the parameters of soap is to show some kind of reality of the longevity of what it means to be an acid attack survivor.

"The restoration and recovery period is so long — if not life-long."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
