Coronavirus Cases Double Within Batavia Schools In 1 Week

BATAVIA, IL — Coronavirus cases within Batavia Public School District 101 soared into triple digits this week after a recent huge surge in cases throughout the region.

District 101 officials reported 32 cases Oct. 27, which grew to 53 cases by Nov. 4. By Friday, the district’s case total more than doubled to 117 cases, according to the district’s data.

That total includes 96 students, 45 of whom attend Batavia High School.

More than 60 percent of the district’s 117 cases since Aug. 19 were active Friday, including 33 cases at Batavia High School. There were also 11 active cases at Rotolo Middle School on Friday, along with 10 at Alice Gustafson Elementary.

Elementary students in District 101 returned to classrooms in mid-August. High school students who opted for in-person learning came back in mid-October, and Rotolo Middle School students are scheduled to return later this month.

The district’s coronavirus dashboard includes confirmed cases among staff working in school and students who are attending in-person class or participating in school-sponsored activities.
