Coronavirus Cases Rise Again In Allegheny County

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Allegheny County.

On Wednesday, 230 new cases and two new deaths were reported. Eight more patients were hospitalized for the virus.

The county reported those figures out of 1,997 test results. In the newest cases, ages range from 7 months to 96 years old, with the median age being 29.

Local officials remind residents to take the necessary precautions to avoid an infection, including wearing masks, washing hands and maintaining physical distance.

"Please limit travel and errands to only those that are necessary and take the appropriate steps to protect those around you. Your vigilance can allow us to keep our businesses open and continue to support the economy," the county said in a Wednesday update.

Statewide, the Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed 849 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 92,148. Twenty-five new deaths were also reported Wednesday.

State officials say they're seeing significant increases in the number of COVID-19 cases among younger age groups, particularly 19 to 24-year-olds.

"While serious outcomes are most commonly seen in patients with comorbidities (e.g., obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, cancer), patients without underlying medical conditions are also at risk for severe outcomes. Studies from China suggest that patients with COVID-19 with no reported underlying medical conditions had an overall case fatality of 0.9 percent," the state health department said in an alert sent over the weeken to healthcare providers.
