Coronavirus In Cherokee County: Restaurants Open, Cases In Town
CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — The new coronavirus outbreak in Georgia and across the nation continues to affect Cherokee County, where schools remain shuttered and businesses have been closed in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.
The number of coronavirus deaths and confirmed cases in Georgia spiked over the past 24 hours. The updated tally, released at noon on Tuesday, reflects an increase of more than 1,000 cases from noon on Monday, and 21 additional deaths, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Fulton County's 547 cases are the most of any Georgia locality. The next highest totals are 455 in Dougherty County, DeKalb with 325 cases, Cobb with 272 cases, Gwinnett with 233 cases, Bartow with 129 cases and Carroll with 122 cases.
CHEROKEE COUNTY CASES, DEATH
There have been 74 cases of coronavirus in Cherokee County and two deaths, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The first death was a 67-year-old woman from Cherokee County died, and the Department of Public Health said she did have underlying medical conditions. The second death was a second woman, 78, who also had underlying medical conditions.

SCHOOLS
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp ordered public schools to remain closed through April 24 due to coronavirus. Prior to this date, the governor will make a decision on the remainder of school year.

CHEROKEE COUNTY
The Cities of Canton and Woodstock have jointly issued executive orders placing a ban on dining inside restaurant facilities through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 12.
During the time of this ban, city officials encourage restaurants to utilize alternative options for food sales including, take-out, curbside to-go, and delivery practices. Additionally, each restaurant currently operating under a consumption on premises or pouring permit for beer and wine may sell packaged (un-opened) beer and wine with food services outlined above.
Canton and Woodstock believe that the limit of in-facility dining, which goes beyond the measures ordered by Governor Brian Kemp, are best practices to curb the spread of germs while also taking into consideration the health and well-being of patrons and restaurant employees.
This ban on dining does not impact personal care facilities, group homes, assisted living facilities, or healthcare cafeterias.
The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners issued a Declaration of Local Emergency and Local Emergency Order to further the county’s preparedness to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
The order activates the Emergency Operations Plan and enacts temporary restrictions for residents to self-isolate in their places of residence. The order will remain in effect until 12 am on April 9, unless modified by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners.
CANTON
Canton City Council held an Emergency Meeting by teleconference voted unanimously to authorize Mayor Bill Grant to sign an Emergency Declaration which includes a Shelter in Place Order.
The City is postponing all non-essential public meetings. The City Council will continue to have its regular monthly meetings and meetings that are required due to ordinance processes will continue. Monthly meetings by City boards, commissions and authorities that are not required will be postponed for the next several weeks. Regarding City Council meetings, the agendas including all documentation for each meeting are available on the City's website as well as a link to watch meetings by internet live or post meeting in a recorded format. If the public would like to participate in public comment on items on the agenda, but do not wish to attend, they can always provide the comments via email at TellUs@cantonga.gov. These comments will be distributed to the Mayor and Council.
Municipal Court trials scheduled for March 25 will be reset for April 22.
The City will not disconnect utility services during the next 30 days.
The City will waive late fees on utility payments during the next 30 days.
The City encourages payment for services to be made online via the Cantonga.gov website, setting up convenient and cost-free autodrafts, or submitting payments through the drop box located at 110 Academy Street.
The Utility Department staff will continue to serve customers using non-face-to-face forms of business communication during this time. Customers may reach the Utility Department by calling 770-704-1502. New utility service can be started online here. Applications to discontinue services can be started online here. You may always visit the City website at cantonga.gov for more information. Customers may pay their utility bills online, call the utility department for instructions to set up autodraft from checking accounts, or utilize the drive up drop box at 110 Academy Street. The City will waive all penalties and will not disconnect services through April 15 due to the COVID19 Pandemic.
The City of Canton Roll-off Site for Residents will remain open as normal from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (closed 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch). If you utilize this site, hold your drivers license up to the inside of the window for our attendant. We will not be assisting in unloading vehicles.
The Municipal Court office is available by phone at 770-704-1546 and citations may be paid online here. Court dates for March are being reset for April. Those cases impacted will receive a letter from the Municipal Court with additional information.

WOODSTOCK
City of Woodstock is open for business. Offices are temporarily closed to the public to limit exposure to the COVID-19 virus as city staff continues to serve residents and businesses. A number of online options for interacting with your city government are available and under development. Officials are in contact with Georgia Department of Public Health and are consulting the guidelines of other agencies like the CDC in making decisions on cancellations and closures.
The April meeting of Woodstock Downtown Development Authority is cancelled.
Georgia Municipal Association has postponed Georgia Cities Week to October 4-10 so the April 20 Town Hall Meeting and April 25 Touch-a-Truck have been postponed.
Woodstock Fire Department is taking added precautions for the safety of citizens and firefighters. WFD will not be doing any public relations details at this time inside or outside of our stations. No outside visitors are allowed at either Woodstock Fire Station at this time. If you are well and need a blood pressure check, please go to your local pharmacy. Car seat checks are suspended until further notice.
Call 911 if you are having difficulty breathing or are choking, having an allergic reaction, have symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, are confused, disoriented or dizzy, are having difficulty speaking, walking or seeing, or have sudden severe pain. Woodstock Fire & Rescue asks that you do not call 911 if you want information about COVID-19, need a ride to the doctor's office, want to get tested, or have mild symptoms.
If you need assistance from Woodstock Police for non-emergency issues, call 678-493-4080. Woodstock Police Department's March 18th Coffee with a Cop at Chick-fil-a is cancelled. The remainder of the Spring Citizens Public Safety Academy is cancelled. All Police Auxiliary Unit duties are suspended until further notice.

If you have received a citation from Woodstock Police or Georgia State Patrol within city limits for most citations you may avoid a court appearance by paying your fine online at www.woodstockpayments.com. You may also pay by phone at 1-844-263-6701 or by mail to City of Woodstock Municipal Court at 12453 Hwy 92, Woodstock, GA 30188. Online payments and payments by phone must be received by midnight the day before your court date. Payments by mail must be received the Friday prior to your court date.
The following changes were made to the Municipal Court calendar for the months of March and April:
April 6 court session will be closed out and rescheduled to May 18
April 13 and April 20 court sessions are canceled
April 27 trial session will be decided by the end of March
All Parks and Recreation facility rentals for March have been cancelled or postponed. Mountain Goat Adventure's Rope Mill Spring Thaw 4 and 10 mile Trail Run has been rescheduled for August 1.
The Parks and Recreation department will begin accepting applications for Community Garden registration on April 1. A link to an online-only registration form will be posted to woodstockparksandrec.com.
The Woodstock Visitors Center is closed until further notice.
All IN WDSTK events are canceled through April. In addition, the following IN WDSTK supported events are being postponed:

Start of Farm. Fresh. Market (April 25): to be rescheduled
The City of Woodstock is closing the William G. Long Senior Center for the next two weeks effective Friday, March 13.
