The UK lockdown measures are "making a difference" but the worst is yet to come, the government's Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance says.

Speaking at the government's daily press conference Sir Patrick said: 'We expect this to get worse over the next few weeks because there's a lag phase".

It comes as Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab announced a £75million fund to get stranded Britons home.

Working with commercial airlines - including British Airways, Virgin and EasyJet - hundreds of thousands of Britons abroad will be able to find routes back to the UK.

Official figures now show that the UK death toll is now at 1,415. The Department of Health and Social Care says 134,946 people have been tested for the coronavirus, with 22,141 returning positive.
