Coronavirus: More than 33 million Americans have filed for unemployment since mid-March

Here’s a recap of the global response to the coronavirus pandemic for Thursday, May 7, 2020.

More than 3.8 million people worldwide have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, and over 269,000 have died.

In the United States, there have been over 1.2 million confirmed COVID-19 cases, and more than 75,000 Americans have died. More than 3.1 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, according to data released Thursday. Over 33 million have filed for unemployment in the last 7 weeks alone.
