Coronavirus: Demographic Breakdowns In Montgomery County
BETHESDA, MD — The Maryland Health Department on Tuesday reported 10 more coronavirus deaths and 121 new cases in Montgomery County, bringing the local death toll to 99 and the total number of cases to 2,768.
Seventeen additional people were categorized as "probable deaths," since lab tests are required to verify they had the virus, even if their death certificates list COVID-19 as the cause of death.
Maryland now has 14,193 confirmed coronavirus cases and 584 deaths. The probable death toll stands at 68.
COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019 and has since infected more than 2,501,000 people and killed more than 171,800 around the world, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.
Maryland reported its first three coronavirus cases on March 5. As of Tuesday, 59,442 people have tested negative for the disease, 3,158 have been hospitalized, and 930 have been released from isolation.
As the state's most populous jurisdiction, Montgomery County has the second highest number of known coronavirus cases in Maryland. Prince George's County is first with a total of 3,734.
