Elton John has postponed multiple concerts due to the coronavirus pandemic.

An announcement was shared on Monday on the singer’s website, telling fans: “After serious consideration, it is with deep regret that Elton John will postpone a portion of upcoming North American dates on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour from 26 March through 2 May 2020”.

Concerts scheduled between 22 May and 8 July are currently scheduled to go ahead as planned.

“This tough decision has been made with the safety and well-being of his fans put to the fore, at a time when health services are under increased pressure and with the concern that these gatherings risk accelerating the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19),” the message continues.

Those who had bought tickets for the postponed gigs will be able to attend the rescheduled performances and will receive more information shortly.

“Elton looks forward to continuing to perform for his dedicated fans around the world and thanks you for your support,” the announcement adds.

The news comes a month after Elton had to stop a concert early after being diagnosed with pneumonia, which affected his voice and kept him from singing any longer.

“I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia earlier today, but I was determined to give you the best show humanly possible,” he wrote on social media after the concert in Auckland, New Zealand.

“I played and sang my heart out, until my voice could sing no more. I’m disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave it all I had.”
