Coronavirus: Food Pantry Van Stolen From East Bay Church

SAN LEANDRO, CA — If there's such thing as an unwritten code of ethics for car thieves, whoever was behind a recent East Bay crossed the line.

A food pantry van used by a San Leandro Church to feed the community’s most vulnerable amid the new coronavirus crisis was stolen on Thursday and remains unaccounted for, The San Jose Mercury News reports.

The city of San Leandro donated the van to All Saints Episcopal Church last year according to the report. The van had been used to help feed families during the coronavirus outbreak.

The van was stolen Thursday morning.

“Our food pantry is one expression of that love as we seek to feed the hungry, just as Christ did,” Rev. Justin Cannon told the Mercury. “It breaks my heart someone would steal a food pantry van from a church.”

The vehicle is described as a White Ford E-350 XL Super Duty van with an 8NPM513 license plate. A identifiable number “32” can be seen on the back and there are scuff marks on the driver’s side door and handle, the report said.

Anyone who sees this van is asked to contact authorities.
