Coronavirus in IL: Crystal Lake City Hall Public Lobby Closes

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The City of Crystal Lake officials announced Thursday the lobby of City Hall is now closed to walk-in traffic in an effort to help limit the spread of the coronavirus. The closure began 12 p.m. Thursday and will continue through Tuesday, March 31, according to a news release from the City of Crystal Lake.

City officials added that all offices are still operating and those who need assistance can call 815-459-2020 or by visiting crystallake.org. To access all online City services, visit crystallake.org/how-do-i.

The news release also said the public lobby of the Crystal Lake Police Department will still be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"The timeline for the closure to the public will be re-assessed and the public
will be updated as necessary," officials said, in news release said. "We thank you for your patience and flexibility as we do our part in stopping the spread of COVID-19. Please know that the City is following recommendations made by federal, state and county agencies that are taking the lead in this ongoing effort to mitigate the spread of this virus.

The Police and Fire Rescue Departments will remain fully operational, as the closure of the public lobby will not impact 911 and emergency services, the City said, adding that "The City’s staffing plan ensures continuity of service in its most critical areas of police and fire rescue emergency response, water treatment/distribution, and prioritizes social distancing. While essential services will remain available, the Police and Fire Rescue Department will suspend all tours and public education activities."

According to the news release, these decisions were made based upon guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. City officials added that as always, the top priority is to promote the health and safety of our customers, employees and community, and the City will continue to reassess conditions and provide updates on the City website.
