The UK lockdown has no end in sight, despite a review promised for Easter Monday.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak, speaking at the daily Downing St update, said the continuation of the nationwide lockdown would be addressed during a Cobra meeting on Thursday.

However, a Government review on ending the lockdown will be based on data and evidence provided by scientists, which will not be available until next week.

“I think we should focus on the here, now and the present. Our priority right now is to stop the spread of this virus," Mr Sunak said.

It comes as the death toll in the UK reached 7,097 after rising by a record 938 deaths in a day.  Prime Minister Boris Johnson's condition is said to be "improving".

Mr Sunak said he he had been "sitting up in bed and engaging positively with the clinical team".
