Coronavirus Lockdown Continues at Tenerife Hotel

The number of coronavirus cases reported in Spain has climbed to seven as hundreds of guests at a hotel in Tenerife continued to be held under lockdown on Wednesday, February 26.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said on Wednesday that there were seven reported cases in Spain, up from three cases on Tuesday. Cases in Italy have also risen overnight, with 229 reported on Tuesday and 322 reported on Wednesday.

Guests at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel in Adeje, a town in Tenerife, were placed under lockdown after an Italian doctor who stayed at the hotel tested positive for the new coronavirus strain, COVID-19, on Monday, according El Pais. About 200 hotel workers and 800 guests from dozens of countries were ordered to stay at the hotel.

Since December 31, there have been 81,027 reported cases of coronavirus, according to the ECDC. A total of 2,763 people had died from the disease as of Wednesday.
