The total number of deaths in the US from the coronavirus pandemic has hit 200,000
There have now been 6,760,654 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country since the virus was first identified.
The grim milestone was reached on Saturday morning according to data collected by NBC News.
According to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington, a surge in new infections in the autumn and winter could result in a total of 415,000 American deaths by January.
