Coronavirus Watch: Baby vaccines + teaching during a pandemic

I woke up feeling thankful this morning.

Before I went to bed, I was worried about my outdoor furniture and the trampoline that we just put up possibly blowing away. We had, in fact, been predicted to get winds up to 70 miles per hour here in metro Detroit.

But this morning, not a thing was out of place and our power was still on. Hopefully you didn't have any major issues, either. Now we just have a few days of sweltering heat in front of us. Be careful out there!

It's Tuesday, and this is Coronavirus Watch from the Detroit Free Press. Let's take a look at the news you need to know about.

Vaccine authorization for little ones

A panel of FDA advisors are holding all-day meetings Tuesday and Wednesday and are likely to recommend two COVID-19 vaccines for the youngest children, as well as a second option for older kids who so far have only had access to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.

The vaccines under review are Moderna's for ages 6 months to 17 years and Pfizer-BioNTech's for children ages 6 months to 5 years.

If the vaccines are authorized this week, they would become available as soon as June 21, the Biden administration has said.
