Hello, friends of Coronavirus Watch!

It's been awhile since I've been onboard here so I know you probably were wondering "Where is Elissa?"

No?

Well, this darn virus doesn't appear to be going anywhere — and neither are we over here at Coronavirus Watch. The nation is within days of reaching 800,000 COVID-19 deaths. That's 1,200 Americans dying with COVID-19 every day. Just yesterday, Michigan reported 16,143 new cases and 160 deaths over the previous three days.

Michigan now has 1,396,467 confirmed cases and 25,240 deaths.

One Michigan health expert says the state is continuing in a "deeply concerning direction" heading into the holidays.

Hospitals are stretched to capacity with inpatient beds, with COVID-19 patients at an all-time high of 21.5%, according to Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, the state's chief medical executive. They never exceeded 20% in prior surges, she said.

The situation may be dire, but state health officials are not implementing mask mandates or any other restrictions, sticking to a public health advisory issued last month that recommends everyone over the age of 2 should wear a mask at indoor gatherings regardless of their vaccination status.

We're at a critical place in this pandemic. Let's all do our part. Get vaccinated. Get boosted. Wear a mask in indoor public settings and get checked if you have symptoms.

Now go ahead and scroll down for more COVID-19 updates you need to know about.

Stay safe,
