Coroner identifies man killed in crash on North St. Vrain near Lyons

Jun. 15—The Boulder County Coroner's Office has identified the man thrown into the North St. Vrain Creek after a crash on Monday as Jeramy McMullen, 44.

The release did not state where McMullen was from, but Colorado State Patrol officials said McMullen may have been from Lyons.

Colorado State Patrol officials said a single-vehicle crash was reported Monday afternoon near the 17-mile marker of North St. Vrain Drive, just west of Apple Valley Road outside Lyons.

State patrol Master Trooper Gary Cutler said initial investigation shows McMullen was driving east when his vehicle went off the right side of the road.

Cutler said it appears McMullen then overcorrected, causing his vehicle to flip and go down an embankment between the road and the creek, which runs alongside the highway.

McMullen was thrown from the vehicle during the crash and recovered from the water a few miles downstream. Lifesaving efforts were made, but McMullen was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

It is not known at this time whether he died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash or from being in the creek. The Boulder County Coroner's Office will determine a cause and manner of death.

Cutler says officials do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, but are looking at excessive speed possibly being a factor.

It is not believed any other vehicles were involved in the crash.
