Coroner identifies man killed in Evansville motorcycle crash

EVANSVILLE – Officials have identified the man who was killed in a motorcycle wreck near Bellemeade Avenue on Monday.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner's office said Matthew Ziliak, 43, died of multiple blunt force trauma. According to an Evansville Police report, Ziliak was on a motorcycle near the intersection of Bellemeade and South Englewood avenues when he attempted to turn onto Bellemeade and an SUV failed to yield.

He was taken to Ascension St. Vincent but died Monday afternoon. Public records listed Ziliak as a Lynnville, Indiana, resident.

The driver of the SUV, who hasn't been publicly identified, wasn't injured. In a news release Tuesday morning, EPD spokeswoman Sgt. Anna Gray said the driver "did not show any signs of impairment and agreed to take a chemical test," which is standard protocol for fatal or injury accidents.

The crash shut down that portion of Bellemeade for about two hours, Gray said.
