Coroner identifies workers who died at Henderson County power plant

The Big Rivers Electric Company power plant is in operation following an incident that occurred Tuesday resulting in the death of two workers in Henderson, Ky., Wednesday, June 8, 2022. The Henderson plant generates the most power of the four Big Rivers plants and was awarded a GovernorÕs Safety and Health Award from Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear in May.

ROBARDS, Ky. — The Henderson County Coroner's Office identified the two men who died Tuesday at a Big Rivers Electric Corporation plant.

According to coroner Bruce Farmer, the victims are 34-year-old Eric Williams, of Henderson, and 39-year-old Phillip Hill, of Greenville, Kentucky.

Autopsies were ongoing as of Wednesday morning, Farmer said, and additional information is expected to be released in the coming days.

No official cause of death has been released.

On Tuesday, a Big Rivers spokeswoman said the two men died after becoming trapped in a confined drainage system. First responders mounted an hours-long rescue attempt that was complicated by the presence of toxic fumes.
