Coroner names Peoria woman who was found dead in Illinois River

PEORIA — A woman whose body was found Tuesday morning in the Illinois River has been identified.

Tamara D. Schaidle, 58, of Peoria, was identified by the Peoria County Coroner's Office on Wednesday evening. An autopsy said drowning was the cause of death, the release said. Further studies and tests are pending. The manner of her death remains under investigation.

Members of the Peoria police and fire departments were called to an area just north of downtown late Tuesday morning after a passerby on the trails saw the body, which was partially submerged on the river's bank. The passerby was north of the RiverPlex in the 600 block of Northeast Water Street, said police spokeswoman Amy Dotson.
