Coroner releases name of Subaru Lafayette gunman in Monday's shooting

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Fifty-seven-year-old John Jones is the man police found dead at the SIA pond Monday after the shooting in the plant's parking lot, Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello said Wednesday morning.

Costello released Jones' name Wednesday after his autopsy. Jones' cause of death was suicide, Costello said of the preliminary autopsy findings.

Jones shot Mindy Donovan, 36, in the Subaru factory's parking lot about 4:15 p.m. Monday, then walked to a nearby retention pond, where he shot himself in the head, according to police and the autopsy results.

After the shooting, Subaru of Indiana Automotive medical personnel rushed to Donovan and began helping her. Paramedics rushed Donovan to a Lafayette hospital. She later was flown to an Indianapolis trauma center by air ambulance.

Last report, she was alive and in critical condition, Costello said.

The shooting appears to be domestic violence, according to police who said the two previously had been in a relationship. Jones targeted Donovan for the shooting, police said.
