Woman killed, child taken to hospital after crash near Mansfield Bridge in Glassport

Investigators have released the name of the woman who died after crashing her SUV on Thanksgiving morning in Glassport.

Allegheny County police said Ennis Jorden Davis, 31, of Mckeesport, died in the crash that happened on Monongahela Avenue.

“I was getting ready for church around 7:30, and I heard a loud bang,” said Nancy Piazza-Whaby, who lives across the street.

She said she saw a car had crashed into a concrete barrier near the Mansfield Bridge, then called 911.

“A bunch of smoke was coming out of the hood of the car. Nobody was coming out. Nobody was around, so I called 911,” said Piazza-Whaby.

Inside that car, police found Davis’ body behind the wheel and a 7-year-old child who was still alive. Accident reconstructionists from Allegheny County police remained at the scene throughout the morning, trying to figure out what led up to the crash. Neighbors told Channel 11 crashes like this have become somewhat of the norm in that stretch of road but said that this particular accident on this day hits close to home.

“A lot of accidents happen in this area, and I was just really concerned. I knew that loud bang meant it was something serious. I’ve heard it before,” said Piazza-Whaby. “Everyone please drive careful. Take care on this Thanksgiving Day. My heart goes out to the family of the victim.”

Police said the child was taken to the hospital and is stable.
