The Riverside County coroner's office identified the victim killed during a shooting at a graduation party in Indio as Matthew Hervey, 18, of Thousand Palms.

Indio police responded to reports of gunfire in the Bella Vida at Shadow Hills gated community located on the 41-900 block of Napoli Street around midnight on July 8, said Indio Police Department spokesperson Benjamin Guitron.

Hervey was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people, only identified as females, had non-life threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to hospitals for treatment. One of them was a minor shot in her thigh, according to Guitron.

Indio police on Monday said in a press release that detectives still did not know what led to the incident and did not have any suspect information. The department asked people with information to contact detectives Kevin Belman at (760) 541-4376 or Edwardo Suarez at (760) 541-4340. They can also report anonymously to Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341- STOP (7867).
