A new pizza shop in Corpus Christi will hold its grand opening this weekend, featuring a meet-and-greet with Grammy Award-winning guitarist Chris Pérez.
Starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Pizza Patrón, a San Antonio-based restaurant, will give out a free personal-size pizza for the first 86 guests while Moody High School's drum line performs.
Two hours later, Pérez will be there to speak to fans. Registration is required to meet Pérez. Sign up at bit.ly/3NpeAQW.
Pizza Patrón, which opened in 1986, partnered with Pérez to feature his signature hot sauce, Pérez Pepper Sauce, on three pizzas — steak fajita, chicken fajita and pepperoni — which will be available only in Corpus Christi.
A resident of San Antonio and the former husband of the late Selena Quintanilla, Pérez said he tries to visit his old neighborhood of Molina and drive down Bloomington Street.
"I'll go by where Selena is resting, and most times, understandably, there's a lot of people there, so I'll just cruise by," Pérez said. "There are occasions where no one is there and I get to spend a little time alone with her."
On Wednesday, Pérez stopped by Produce in downtown Corpus Christi to be a guest on Horacio "El Dusty" Oliveira's podcast "Dusty Crates." Pérez said he loves how the area has changed over the years.
Pérez said he's looking forward to meeting people Saturday and said he is in talks to have a show in Corpus Christi with The Chris Pérez Band.
"We're thinking about doing certain ideas like three different segments to the show and things I haven't done in the past," Pérez said. "Now with time, healing and a different perspective on things, I'm excited to play music from my past like Selena y Los Dinos and other projects."
