Corrado's Market Opening Delayed To March in Brick: Mayor

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township residents eagerly awaiting the arrival of Corrado's Family Affair will have to wait a bit longer: It appears the store may not open until March.

In a Facebook live, Mayor John G. Ducey responded to a resident's question about the status of the grocery store. Ducey said he had spoken with the owners of Corrado's and they told him they were anticipating opening at the end of March.

There were no specifics about the delays, but the coronavirus pandemic caused hold-ups for many commercial projects across the township and the area.

Corrado's announced in the summer of 2019 that it was bringing its brand to the Jersey Shore, to fill part of the former Pathmark site at Laurel Square Shopping Center. It had anticipated opening in the summer of 2020, estimating about 10 months to prepare the store because the Pathmark had been closed since November 2015.

Corrado's also was awarded a liquor license in October 2019 and will sell alcohol next door to the market.

Corrado's caters to those who enjoy cooking at home. The markets — there are six North Jersey locations — sell fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh fish and fresh meat. While they source their fish for the North Jersey stores at the fish markets in New York City, "the Jersey Shore gives us lots more options for local fish," said James Corrado, who will oversee the Brick store.

They are heavily involved in the state's Jersey Fresh program. "If we can deal direct with a farmer and get it to our stores, it's fresher and provides a better price value to our customers as well," he said. "The best stuff comes from New Jersey. It may not all be organic but it's the best quality you can get."

It will sell alcohol as well, after being awarded a liquor license in October.
