There may be a whirlwind romance in the cards for Coronation Street newcomer Bobby, played by Britain's Got Talent star Jack Carroll.

Carla Barlow's nephew Bobby has recently relocated to Weatherfield, looking for a place to stay after being kicked out by his mum.

Carroll, who's a stand-up comedian, appeared on This Morning on January 4, teasing a romantic situation that will tie in with a previously announced "blockbuster" storyline that will see his character Bobby take centre stage.

"Well, I think that will develop over the coming weeks!" Carroll said of Bobby having "an eye for the ladies".

"We will kind of see where it takes him, I think those developments will be very interesting going forward into this year and they really develop into, I found out recently, a big blockbuster kind of storyline. It's really exciting!" he continued.

"We've filmed some of them, so I think it will be over the next few months, those seeds will start developing. Very exciting indeed!"

Speaking with Digital Spy and other press in December, Carroll admitted to feeling apprehensive when joining Corrie, knowing he'll be part of this storyline.

"I only found out yesterday the nuts and bolts of what the story is. It is very, very exciting. I would even go so far as to say 'blockbuster,'" he said.

"There's always a little bit of apprehension – I'd only been there a couple of weeks and then found out that I was going to be part of this massive storyline."

While he didn't divulge details of Bobby's role, it seems that his storyline is going to be a major subplot for the new year, as Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod explained last October.

"As a slightly more long-range tease, he's going to end up surprisingly in the centre of perhaps our biggest story next year," he said of Bobby.

"I can't say too much about it now, but he's got a brilliant classically Coronation Street role to play at the start, as this loveable sarcastic classic Corrie feckless male.

"Then he abruptly finds himself in the middle of this huge story next year so I'm really excited about the casting, the part and his role in the next 12 months and beyond."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
