Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Henry Newton will deliver a major shock to his ex-girlfriend Gemma Winter-Brown next week, as he unexpectedly declares his true feelings for her.

Since Henry reappeared in Weatherfield earlier this summer, he's been keen to reignite his acquaintance with Gemma, and managed to convince her to begin a new job as his PA after he promised that Newton & Ridley would buy The Rovers Return if she agreed.

Despite a shaky start as Henry's father Phillip made his disapproval of her clear, Gemma has been doing well in her new job working for Henry. However, their working relationship will take a new turn in scenes airing next week.

After Gemma heads to work, Henry asks her to meet him at a hotel bar, saying that he has a business meeting there and will need her help.

When they arrive, Henry insists on buying Gemma a drink. Suddenly, he admits that there is no meeting and, in fact, he's actually lost his job.

Henry then stuns Gemma by declaring that he loves her with all his heart, and that he wants them to spend the rest of their lives together.

Gemma is completely shocked by Henry's revelation. How will she respond to his declaration of love?

Whatever she says next, it seems that her husband Chesney has had his fears proved right, as he was nervous about Gemma working in such close quarters with her ex. Is his family unit with Gemma about to be ripped apart?

George Banks, who plays Henry, revealed after his return that his character has changed since he was last on the cobbles after having "time to reflect on some of his choices".

He also confirmed that seeing Gemma again would reawaken some feelings in Henry, despite the fact that he originally got together with her for a bet.

"He is really pleased to see her and remembering the good times they had and the fun that he does have with her maybe you will start to see a few of those old feelings resurface," said George.

"But because of everything that happened, he is also a bit hesitant about showing that."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
