Peter Ash is honouring his emotional Coronation Street storyline by undertaking a challenge for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

On the ITV soap, Peter plays Paul Foreman, who is coming to terms with his recent diagnosis that he has motor neurone disease, which came to light after a car accident left him struggling to use his hand.

The beloved soap is working with the charity to ensure Paul’s story is true to life, and now Peter is raising awareness off-screen for the life-threatening disease.

Peter shared with his followers on Instagram that he is set to run 10k for MND at the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run on Sunday, May 21.

Alongside a selfie in his gym gear, he wrote: "Out for a bank holiday run! I'm running 10k in just under 2 weeks to raise money for @mndassoc.

“Please do consider donating (link in my story) to this great cause!"

He also revealed that his Corrie co-stars Ryan Russell and Channique Sterling-Brown will also be running alongside him.

"Real people's stories are so inspirational, and I feel a responsibility," he shared (via Manchester Evening News). "We act it but there will be people watching who are living with it – it’s very important to get it right.

"The charity is doing incredible work, supporting those living with MND and funding crucial research.

"I’m really looking forward to running on the day and I’m sure there will be lots of support out on the streets."

Peter previously discussed how he has been working with the MND Association for Paul's storyline on screen.

"The MND Association have been a great help and have been giving us the information we need," he said in March. "Whenever there's a new script or a new symptom, I'll check in with them and make sure that it's portrayed properly."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
