Cortlandt restaurant, known for its pies, comfort food, has closed

Grandma's Restaurant in Cortlandt, which epitomized comfort food — think Yankee pot roast, pancakes, pizza and a large assortment of pies (banana cream pie was a fave!) — has closed.

The last day, posted on their Facebook page, along with a "we kindly thank you for your patronage over the years," was Oct. 10.

The restaurant, which had been around since 1974 under various owners, was a longtime institution feeding generations of families, with many customers sharing memories and lamenting its loss.

The announcement has reverberated throughout northern Westchester's social media with a flurry of comments (more than 175!) on The Hudson Valley Facebook page. JoAnn Piscatelli D'Agrosa wrote about her "great memories of the banana cream pie," while Maggie Adler posted how "Grandma’s is an institution in Yorktown. Good luck and thank you for your wonderful service and food."

Added Janet McAnally White: "We already miss you!! No pizza will ever compare! Good luck to your family and thank you for all the of the great food and service!"

The restaurant, which was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, was at 3525 Crompond Road.

The end of the year seems to be a big time for closures. Coals in Bronxville will be closing soon (an exact date was pending) and Mary Anne's Mexican Restaurant had its last day Oct. 30.
