COS roundup (April 18)

College of the Sequoias’ women’s tennis team continues in the Northern California team playoffs Tuesday, playing at West Valley College in Saratoga at 1 p.m.

COS is 13-1 overall after downing Modesto 8-1 last weekend in its first playoff match.

If Sequoias wins Tuesday they will play in the NorCal finals Saturday, likely on the road.

Baseball

COS swept a three-game series from Taft last week to improve to 18-15 overall and 13-5 in Central Valley Conference play, two games behind Fresno with six games to play.

The Giants’ championship hopes will be severely tested this week as they play four games, three on the road. Sequoias will be at Taft Tuesday, West Hills Coalinga Thursday and Porterville Saturday, before hosting Reedley next Sunday at 1 p.m.

COS is currently ranked No. 18 in Northern California.

Softball

The COS softball team won their only two games last week and are now 20-10 for the season and 8-4 in conference play.

Sequoias has three road games this week, a single game at West Hills Coalinga Thursday and a non-conference doubleheader at Bakersfield on Friday.

COS’ regular season will conclude April 25 with a single game at Porterville.

Emily Ibarra is the Giants’ leading hitter with a .416 average, and has a team-leading 34 RBIs in 29 games.

Swimming/diving

The COS swim and diving teams will be looking to defend their conference championships in this year’s CVC meet, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at Merced College.

Sequoias sophomores Joshy Peters and Jillian Lambert were the conference meet’s outstanding performers from 2022; Peters in sprint freestyle events and the individual medley and Lambert in the freestyle and breaststroke.

Track and field

The Giant track team will compete in the Laney College Last Chance meet Friday in Oakland.
