Coshocton City Schools Board of Education: Who has applied for open seat?

COSHOCTON — Eleven candidates have applied to fill an open seat on the board of education for Coshocton City Schools.

The board had a special meeting to review applications on Jan. 28. Interviews with candidates will be on Feb. 7, with a second round on Feb. 10, if needed. Interviews are not required, but being conducted as a best practice, the board stated.

The board is expected to interview seven of the 11 candidates, but have not announced who. Interviews would be done in executive session.

The seat is open due to the Jan. 15 resignation of Steve Clark, who cited personal reasons for stepping down. The board has until Feb. 15 to fill the slot with an announcement to likely be made on Feb. 10.

The selected individual will fulfill the remaining term, ending Dec. 31, and is expected to run for re-election.

Those submitting applications:

Cynthia Abood — A retired registered nurse who worked for the Coshocton County Health Department and was once assistant to the nurse at Coshocton City Schools.

Kelly Bratton — A law clerk for Gottlieb, Johnston, Beam & Del Ponte. She also served as a guardian ad litem for Coshocton County Juvenile Court and guardianship investigator for Coshocton County Probate Court.

Heidi Collins — A homemaker who was previously on the board of directors for BlueHelp and a corrections officer in Minnesota.

Lisa Timmons Gibson — Director of Yankee Wire Cloth Products.

Joshua Kempf — A civil engineer with the Coshocton County Engineer's Office who served as an intern with the Holmes County Engineer's Office and Ohio Department of Transportation District 5. He also worked an engineer for Hull & Associates and a surveyor's assistant for Ward & Emler Surveying.

Opha Lawson Jr. — A police officer for the Village of Newcomerstown and former officer with the Village of West Lafayette. He was a candidate for Coshocton County Sheriff in 2020.

Jerrod Norman — A business computer instructor for East Guernsey Local Schools for seventh to 12th grades. He previously worked as a substitute at Coshocton City Schools and for the media center of Ridgewood High School.

Wesley Shook — An IT analyst for Coshocton Regional Medical Center.

David Shutt — Director of sales and marketing for Wonder Grip USA. He also worked for S.W. Safety, Showa and Best Glove.

Carly Thompson — A real estate agent and owner of HER Realtors, Grason Properties and Construction and Thompson Business Center.

Eric Underwood — An engineer and project manager for American Electric Power.
