The first round of funding from the Appalachian Community Grant Program saw $17.67 million going to projects in Athens, Logan, Somerset and Coshocton. This grouping of projects is known as the At Work in Appalachia Initiative.

It's composed of public and private agencies across Appalachian Ohio to establish coordinated, interconnected remote work and entrepreneur hubs and locally-designed health and workforce development programming through a series of public and private partnerships.

These projects are considered lynchpins that will breathe vibrancy into downtown districts and serve as catalysts for further improvements and development.

“The Coshocton Collaborative will provide essential resources to our entrepreneurs at all stages and a one-stop shop for economic development needs,”  said Tiffany Swigert, executive director of the Coshocton Port Authority.

The Coshocton Collaborative was announced in the summer of 2021 with the port authority purchasing the Chacos Building at 538 Main St., formerly home to the Pastime Theater.

The collaborative will feature a unique maker space, business incubator and co-working facility while also providing office space for the Coshocton Port Authority and others. Renovations are estimated to take 18 to 24 months once started. There are also plans to eventually restore the theater area for movies, plays, concerts and more.
