Costco announces Hendersonville opening date just in time for Thanksgiving

Costco, the popular membership warehouse club, will open a new location in the Nashville suburb of Hendersonville — just in time for Thanksgiving.

The company plans to open the new storefront on Nov. 15, according to a list of warehouses coming soon. The new store will include a tire service center, pharmacy, hearing aid center, optical department and gas station.

Costco, which is based in Washington, continues to compete locally against Sam's and BJ's — two other membership warehouse clubs with multiple locations in Tennessee.

Of the three membership warehouses, Costco is the national industry leader. The company enjoyed about $227 billion in revenue last year despite owning fewer stores than Sam's Club's ($73 billion) and its 600 warehouses. BJ's, which has two locations in Tennessee — one in La Vergne and another in Mt. Juliet — brought in about $19 billion nationally during the same time period.

In Hendersonville, the 156,000-square-foot Costco store will be part of the Glenbrook South development on land near TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center.

The store is expected to hire about 200 employees, while generating about $2 million in annual sales tax revenue and $200,000 in property taxes, city officials said.

The Hendersonville Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved the development plans in March 2022.
