Costco is closed for Labor Day, but here are the stores and restaurants staying open

Consumers wanting to take advantage of the long weekend will have several options for shopping and dining out this Labor Day.

Unlike Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving, most major retailers are open Monday, though some stores have special holiday hours. Many pharmacies will be closed.

Costco is the largest retailer staying closed on Labor Day, a legal holiday dedicated to the achievements of American workers. The wholesale club closes for other holidays, including New Year's Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day.

U.S. stock markets also will be closed Monday in observance of the holiday, along with banks and government offices. Like with other federal holidays, it's considered a good time to buy a car, a mattress and shop other sales.

If you're not firing up the grill this weekend for what many consider the end of summer, most restaurants are open.

However, with Hurricane Dorian threatening Florida and the East Coast, many stores and restaurants may also be closed on the holiday.
