Costco plans 6th SC location. See where they’re building

A 130-acre tract planned for residences and stores in Indian Land will include the first Costco in Lancaster County, a rapidly growing South Carolina community near Charlotte.

Rezoning to accommodate the national warehouse chain was approved by Lancaster County Council in June.

The overall project is called the Exchange at Indian Land and is being developed by Crosland Southeast of Charlotte. The project will include about 700 apartments and townhomes in the first phase as well as commercial and retail businesses.

Costco expects the store will generate $2.6 million in sales tax revenue and $1 million in property tax. Yates Dunaway, senior vice president for Crosland Southeast, told Lancaster County Council members the store will have $200 million in annual sales.

The store will be 156,000 square feet and have a gas station.

Real estate companies advertising the outparcels for the site say the area is projected to have a 5% increase in population each year.

Nearby retailers are Harris Teeter, Publix, Food Lion, Walmart, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Stone Cinemas, Adli, Lidl, Hobby Lobby, Burlington, Ross, TJMaxx and Homegoods.

In addition, the Medical University of South Carolina has a medical campus in the area.

Costco has locations in Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Greenville, Spartanburg, Charleston and Mount Pleasant.
