Costco Requires Face Coverings For Shoppers During Coronavirus

KIRKLAND, WA — Costco on Wednesday unveiled an updated list of shopping policies, slated to begin Monday at all stores across the nation. The Kirkland-based retailer will require all shoppers to wear face coverings, except for guests two years old or younger.

All Costco members will need to wear masks that cover their face and nose at all times while inside warehouses, and shopping will remain limited to two people per membership card.

Costco said face coverings are not a replacement for social distancing requirements, and the six-foot rule must be observed by staff and shoppers and all times.

Most stores and gas stations will return to their regular operating hours Monday, rolling back a temporary schedule change that closed doors at 6:30 p.m.

Special shopping hours for those over 60 will also go into effect on Monday, allowing seniors exclusive access to stores between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. during weekdays.

"As the crisis has developed, we've been proud that Costco has remained an essential business, supplying food, medicine, cleaning supplies and other essential items to all of the communities where we do business," wrote Craig Jelinek, Costco's CEO, in a letter to members. "The issues presented by this crisis are new to all of us, and we at Costco do pretend to have all the answers. We are not perfect. But every step of the way, we've done our best to take care of our employees, take care of our members and support our communities."
