If you could have any Charlotte chef teach you to cook, who would it be and which dish?

This week, I learned how to make New York meets Detroit-style pizza from Emmy Squared co-founder Emily Hyland, so now I think I’m hot stuff in the kitchen.

Hyland now lives in Charlotte. She moved here from Brooklyn to open an Emmy Squared in Plaza Midwood, and she is now planning another location for South End.

As if that’s not enough to do, she also teaches virtual pizza and burger-making classes. And it just so happens that pizza is my love language.

On Wednesday evening, I learned how to knead dough from the expert (with tears in my eyes, as it reminded me of baking Christmas cookies with my grandmother as a child). I also learned how to create cheesy, crusty pizza edges, which cheeses make the best combinations and how to get the sauce on the pie just right.

It got me thinking: It doesn’t get much better than this. The class was fun, informative, the perfect fast pace (but not too fast), and I can’t think of a single other dish I’d rather learn to make than pizza. It’s a skill I’ll plan to use more often than I probably should, if we’re being honest.

Which Charlotte chef would you invite into your kitchen?

And now, we want to know: If you could have any Charlotte chef teach you to make a meal, who would you choose and which meal would you make?

The sky’s the limit: Would you learn how to perfect a sushi roll or learn the art of Carolina barbecue? Would you ask your favorite pastry chef to teach you a kronuts recipe or maybe a barista to gift you the skill of latte art?
