Low-income families in Wilmington could be eligible for high-speed internet service for just $30 per month.

City officials on Friday announced a list of sign-up sessions scheduled for June in various neighborhoods for families to learn more about the Affordable Connectivity Program, a long-term federal program to help low-income families afford internet access.

Wilmington has partnered with the state and Wilmington Community Advisory Council to promote the statewide initiative. The program also provides a one-time $100 discount on a connected laptop, desktop computer, or tablet through a participating service provider.

Eligibility requirements

A household is eligible for $30 per month internet access if at least one person meets one of the following criteria:

  • Income that is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.

  • Participates in certain assistance programs like SNAP, Medicaid or Social Security.

  • Approved to receive benefits under free and reduced-price school lunch or breakfast programs.

  • Received a federal Pell Grant during the current award year.

  • Meets eligibility criteria for a participating broadband providers’ existing low-income program.

  • Participates in one of several trivial specific programs like Tribal Head Start or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations.

Scheduled sign-up sessions

Prior to attending a sign-up session, residents and families should visit GetACP.org/Delaware to use a pre-enrollment tool to see if they qualify, see what documents are required and view a list of “free with ACP” home internet plans.

The schedule for sign-up sessions include:

June 5 and June 6

Wilmington Police Athletic League at 3707 N. Market St. from 12 to 6 p.m. both days.

June 9

WHA Crestview at 2700 N. Market St. at 3:30 p.m.

June 15

  • Jefferson Street Center at 1801 N. Jefferson St. from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

  • Safe United Neighborhoods food/clothing giveaway at East 22nd and Lamotte streets from 5 to 7 p.m.

  • Wilmington Police Department Community Resource Fair at Cool Spring Park, North Jackson Street and Park Place from 4 to 6 p.m.
