The National Weather Service of Indianapolis has plenty for you to watch out for on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024.

The unseasonably warm temperatures continue and bring with it the potential for severe weather.

What's the weather today in Indianapolis, Indiana? Is it going to rain?

Indianapolis residents will likely need to break out an umbrella Tuesday, Feb. 27, and potentially a weighted ball and chain, according to NWS. The hazardous weather outlook suggests Hoosiers prepare for severe storms that could include large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.

A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Winds will run between 14 to 17 mph with gusts hitting 29 mph.

Outside of storms, wind gusts up to 45 mph are possible this evening through overnight, accordin to NWS. The storm should move east northeast at around 45 mph.

With overnight precipitation at 80%, rainfall totals are expected to reach around quarter of an inch, but could be higher due to thunderstorms.

NWS-Indianapolis forecast models show a potential record-high of 74 degrees headed for the city, as temperatures are expected to hit the low to mid 70s.

Say goodbye to the warm temperatures as rain turns to snow on Wednesday, Feb. 28. There is a 30% of precipitation.

NWS expects a chance of rain and snow showers before 9 a.m. followed by a chance of snow showers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Temperature will drop considerably, hitting the lower 30s. West northwest winds will reach 18 to 22 mph with gusts as high as 33 mph.

Tuesday's highs in the lower 70s are expected to drop to 32 degrees by 11 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Indianapolis temperature record for February tied on Feb. 9

February has been an unusually warm month in 2024. NWS reported that Indianapolis came very close to breaking the record high temperature of 66 degrees on Feb. 9.

Indianapolis tied the record, which was last set in 1894 and again in 1943. The record is expected to fall later today.
